What it was really like being married to Elvis, according to Priscilla Presley

Elvis Presley and Priscilla Beaulieu got married in 1967 —and even though the couple got divorced six years later, their relationship was forever immortalized by the press.

Elvis and Priscilla had been dating for seven years before they finally tied the knot, and shortly after they made it official, Priscilla gave birth to their daughter: Lisa Marie Presley. Priscilla was only 21-years-old when she married one of the most famous men in musical history — which we all can assume was a lot of pressure on a person. Not much is known about Priscilla and Elvis’ relationship — until now. Recently, Priscilla spoke out about the trials and tribulations of being married to the King of Rock and Roll. In an interview with Huffington Post Live, Priscilla spoke about her relationship, stating:

Having to balance your husband’s worldwide fame, your new marriage, a pregnancy, and  a newborn baby sounds absolutely impossible. While Priscilla always maintained a strong sense of balance and a perfect image for the media, we imagine her marriage had its (many) moments.

Priscilla, like any rockstar’s wife, came under a lot of scrutiny for marrying someone so well-loved and so famous. Though it is entirely unfair, women who marry men in the spotlight usually get a lot of flack and are judged even harsher than anyone else. Priscilla told Huffington Post Live:

After Elvis’ death in ’77, Priscilla pursued a successful career in acting and producing. She was in Dallas from 1983 to 1988, The Naked Gun in ’88, and starred in a few episodes of Melrose Place in 1996. She also became Ambassador of the Dream Foundation in 2003, a charity for the terminally ill.

Priscilla Presley has always been a signal of strength and hope. We wish her the best throughout her life!
