Whoops, Mark Hamill might have accidentally revealed Rey’s parentage…back in the ’80s

Mark Hamill is at it again! Well, he was, back in the ’80s. Apparently, his interview techniques haven’t changed too much because in a new (old) interview Mark Hamill sneakily confirmed some of George Lucas’ future Star Wars plans. But could they actually be spoilers for The Last Jedi?!

An old interview has re-surfaced between Hamill and well-known late film critic Gene Siskel from when Hamill was promoting Return of the Jedi waaaaaay back in 1983. But wait, just take a second to look at adorable Mark Hamill.

Anyway, in the interview Mark off-handedly mentions that George Lucas had told him some ideas for the future of Luke Skywalker:

"George has talked to me marginally about doing something at the turn of the century in the last trilogy but it wouldn't be on the same plane of existence if you know what I mean."

Totally don’t know what you mean, but apparently, Gene Siskel did. He told Mark that it sounded like he was being offered the opportunity to play a father to “Luke Jr.” around the year 2000. WHAT. And Mark responded by saying “you’re a very clever man, Mr. Siskel.”

But what does all of this mean for today? Could this be confirmation of Rey being Luke’s daughter? Or perhaps at some point in the last 30 years, the ideas for the Star Wars story has changed. Who knows but this is still a pretty cool theory!!

You can watch the full interview here and pretend you’re actually watching live coverage of Star Wars from the 1980s:

We’ll all just have to keep speculating and hoping that *fingers crossed* the question is finally answered when The Last Jedi hits theaters this December.
