Mario Dedivanovic (aka Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist) says he used this iconic word BEFORE the Kardashians
Kardashian fans and makeup-lovers the world over know the name Mario Dedivanovic. He’s Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist, and the beauty guru who helped popularize some of today’s hottest beauty trends (highlighting, contouring, and bare-faced beauty—to name just a few). But what we didn’t know about Dedivanovic is that he apparently started saying a particularly iconic word long before the Kardashians brought it into our lives and the cultural lexicon.
And that word? (Drumroll, please…) Okurrr.
Yep. In a recent interview with The Cut, the makeup artist revealed he got the phrase from “somewhere” and the Kardashian sisters also started using it. From there, rapper Cardi B took on the Okurrr mantle, firmly establishing it as one of the most popular expressions of 2018.
"So, people don’t really know this, but I started saying 'Okurrrrrrrr' years ago then Khloé Kardashian made it a thing, then Cardi B," he said. "I did get it from somewhere, though. I just can’t remember where. Khloé and I always joke about it."
(Many pop culture aficionados will tell you that the phrase originated within drag culture and was heard on RuPaul’s Drag Race long before it was ever heard on KUWTK, so perhaps that’s where Dedivanovic first heard it. Others firmly believe the phrase originated from a problematic 2009 internet video).
No matter where the phrase came from, we’re honestly just so glad it’s here. Okurrr?
