Here’s even more deets on Mariah Carey’s new reality show

Last week, we found out that Mariah Carey is blessing us with docu-series about her life during her Las Vegas residency at Ceaser’s Palace, called Mariah #1 to Infinity. On Tuesday, she spoke to The New York Times in a bit more detail about the project, and there’s one thing she wants us to know.

”I refuse to call it a reality show,” she explained. Instead, the eight-part E! program will show the superstar on a more intimate level, rather than her surface day-to-day activities. These will include her European tour, as well as her upcoming wedding this spring to billionaire James Packer.  “I thought it would be a good opportunity to kind of, like, show my personality and who I am, even though I feel like my real fans have an idea of who I am,” she told the Times. “A lot of people have misperceptions about this and that.”

Whether you call it a reality show or a docu-series, Mariah #1 to Infinity will be made by the same people who brought us Keeping Up With the Kardashians, I Am Cait and The Real World so you know it’s going to be good. The Times also noted the show is also trying out something new: breaking the “fourth wall” and immersing the crew in the show, making it more of a documentary rather than quick cuts and in-studio interviews.

While we’re so excited to see parts of Mariah Carey’s life we’ve never known about before, there’s definitely one thing that’s off limits for the show: her children, 4-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan Cannon with her ex, Nick Cannon. “I don’t want to do anything that’s exploitative,” she told the Times. “They haven’t been filmed at all yet. There might be a couple of moments, but it’s not about making them the stars of the show. They’re too young to make that decision.”

We totally agree with this decision, and only want to see the parts of Mariah Carey’s life that she’s comfortable sharing. Knowing Mariah, we’re still in for a lot of surprises. Even though she’s not sure if the show will continue past the first season, we know we’ll leave whatever she shows us ready to be the perfect diva.
