Mariah Carey says she feels “mortified” after what happened on NYE

Legendary singer and all time perfect diva Mariah Carey has said she feels “mortified” by her disastrous performance on Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve With Ryan Seacrest.

Carey’s performance on the iconic NYE telethon was dogged by alleged difficulties with in-ear monitors and accusations of lip-syncing. This in turn started a war of words between Dick Clark Productions and Mariah’s team, the latter of whom threw accusations that the whole thing was done to “set [Mariah] up.”

Indeed, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mariah’s manager, Stella Bulochnikov, stated that Dick Clark Productions would do anything for a “viral” moment, even if it was at the expense of Mariah, and chastised the company for not apologizing to the diva.

"We live in this viral world where anybody will do anything for a viral moment," she said.

Well, Mariah Carey herself has now broken her silence surrounding the incident.

Speaking to EW, Mariah said that she felt  humiliated by the incident.

"All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business," Mariah said. "I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time."

Mariah went on to say that while the incident wouldn’t prevent her from performing at more live events, she was certainly “less trusting of using anyone outside of my own team.”

"My true fans have been so supportive and I am so appreciative of them and everybody in the media that came out to support me after the fact because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve," she said.

Despite allegations that Dick Clark Productions were attempting to create a “viral” moment, the production company has astutely denied any wrongdoing on their part.

We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry,” they said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey is set to embark on a 35-date tour with iconic soul singer Lionel Richie later this year.
