Mariah Carey discussed her New Year’s Eve performance and finally set the record straight about who was to blame

Just because we’re nearly three months into 2017 doesn’t mean we’re finished analyzing important stuff that happened last year. That said, we were all ears when Mariah Carey discussed her New Year’s Eve performance in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. In one of her first sit-downs since the infamous hot mess of a New Year’s Eve show, Carey set the record straight about who was to blame for the disastrous set, and even took on some of the responsibility herself.

"This was out of my control, and had everything not been such a total chaotic mess, then I would have been able to make something happen," the "I Don't" singer told Rolling Stone. "Even the dancers should have stopped dancing and helped me off the fucking stage. I'm sorry. It was a mess, and I blame everybody, and I blame myself for not leaving after rehearsal."

Um, yeah we could totally see that happening.

So, why didn’t Carey pull a hair flip and exit stage left?

“It’s just something where if I can’t explain it to the entire world, then they’re not going to understand it, because it’s not what they do,” Carey added. “Just like I wouldn’t understand somebody who had a desk job and how to do that. I couldn’t. I literally am incapable of being in the real world and surviving.”

Oh, Mariah.

That kind of sounds like she’s over trying to make everyone see things from her perspective, but we get it! After all, it’s been two months and she’s clearly moved on to bigger, better, non-tragic performances, such as Carey’s first post-NYE set on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which went off without a hitch, BTW. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRNWjOr4b3A

As Mimi fans who merely bask in the shimmer of the glittery glow that she casts, we certainly have no clue what it’s like to walk in her stilettos. However, we do understand that bad performances happen to the best of our faves, and we’re happy to *finally* move on from this one.
