How this awesome model just made Victoria’s Secret runway history

23-year-old Angolan-born model Maria Borges made Victoria’s Secret history last night when she became the first model to walk the VS Fashion Show with her natural hair.

As Essence reports, in the past Borges has modeled for the lingerie company, but has always worn extensions for the VS shows before. This time around, Borges REALLY wanted to wear her natural hair for the runway and so the day of the show, she left her extensions at home.

“I told my agent I wanted to walk in the Victoria’s Secret show with my natural hair,” says Borges. “I was nervous, but I had to do it. When they said ‘yes’ I didn’t expect it, but I was so happy!”

In fact, she was so excited to show off her natural hair, she sent a tweet out letting her fans know the good news:

Fans flipped over Maria’s natural look and their support did not go unnoticed:

And, as if she hadn’t already given us enough awesomeness, she also gave great advice to her fans who want to wear their natural hair.

“Be strong,” she says. “If you say you’re beautiful without hair and makeup, then they will believe you. It’s about being confident and always being yourself.”
