People are accusing Margot Robbie of lying about her age and it’s kind of bonkers

There’s a conspiracy happening that is equal parts ridiculous and offensive. Australian actress Margot Robbie is 25 years old. We know this because she has said it. That should be the end of the story, right?

Well, unfortunately, it’s not. On Friday, Jezebel published an article titled, “No Offense to Anyone But Margot Robbie Is Not 25.” The article brings up how the subject of Robbie’s age has been a topic of conversation among conspiracy theorists for years. But the author writes that it’s not a conspiracy at all — she is, in fact, 30 years old.

And he “proves” it by sharing an excerpt from a 2008 story in The Sydney Morning Herald that referred to Robbie’s age as 23:

“The fresh crop of Neighbours actors was in Sydney yesterday,” the story reads. “One of the newest, Margot Robbie, had her first appearance on air on Monday, playing a groupie with stalker tendencies. The 23-year-old actress from the Gold Coast opted to attend a Sex And The City: The Movie screening instead of staying home to watch the episode.”

OK… so this proves nothing except that the except that the Herald made a mistake in 2008. But the Jezebel author believes it proves everything:

“That Margot Robbie was a 23-year-old actress in 2008 and a 25-year-old actress in 2016 could mean one of two things: either she’s only aged two years since the first Sex and the City movie entered theaters, or she’s 30 years old, soon 31,” he writes.

Speculation about Robbie’s age has strangely been debated for a while now, and it’s something Robbie completely brushed off when the subject came up during an interview with Elle last year.

“People seem outraged that I’m 24. People think I’m a decade older,” she said.

There are plenty of other things to be outraged over other than someone’s age. Robbie says she’s 25, so she’s 25. Mystery solved.
