Listen up, literally, because Mandy Moore is getting ready to record a new studio album

Rebecca Pearson, who? We’re just kidding, This Is Us fans, but Mandy Moore is taking a cue from hercharacter on the hit NBC series and is returning to her musical roots. It’s been nine years since Moore released a last studio album — her last, titled Amanda Leigh — but the actress and former pop star revealed she’s back in the studio working on her sixth studio album.

The This Is Us star first burst into the pop scene in 1999 with catchy singles “Candy” and “Crush,” releasing five studio albums throughout the late ’90s and 2000s. Moore also sang in her feature film debut, The Princess Diaries, and sung a handful of songs on the A Walk To Remember soundtrack, including “Only Hope” — which still reduces us to tears every single time we hear it.

Taking to Instagram, the Tangled star teased a short, bluesy preview of a brand new track that she and producer Mike Viola were working on. In the caption, Moore admitted to missing being in the studio, writing, “Getting back to it. It’s time. I miss it. I’m not scared anymore. No more excuses. No more allowing someone’s else insecurities to dictate my relationship to music and singing. Boom. Also- this is just a little demo of something @themikeviola and I worked on yesterday…but still, it’s a start!”

In the video, Moore can be heard crooning, “Don’t underestimate a fool in love.”

While Moore took nearly a decade off her pop career, the actress hasn’t entirely stayed away from music. Prior to being cast as singer Rebecca Pearson in This Is Us, the actress lent her voice to a few voice animated projects, including 2010 Disney musical, Tangled, in which she voiced the role of Rapunzel, later voicing the title character on children’s animated series, Sheriff Callie’s Wild West.

We are so excited to see Mandy back in the studio working on new music. Fingers crossed she’s working on a duet with Chrissy Metz!
