Mandy Moore teamed up with her fiancé Taylor Goldsmith for this hauntingly beautiful This Is Us song

Each and every episode of This Is Us takes viewers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. We laugh, we cry, and we cry some more…usually with a heart-wrenching song playing in the background. Like remember the scene when the Pearson family home goes up in flames? Yeah, we’ll never hear “To Build A Home” the same way again. And this season, Mandy Moore and her fiancé, singer-songwriter Taylor Goldsmith, collaborated on a gorgeous song for the hit family drama.

And to no one’s surprise, the original track tugged at everyone’s heartstrings—even Jack’s.

In the episode titled, “Sometimes,” young Rebecca and Jack travel all the way to Los Angeles to meet with record executives and hopefully kickstart Bec’s music career. She plays them a demo of her song, a Joni Mitchell-esque tune called “Invisible Ink,” only to receive a lukewarm response. They tell her that although she’s good, she’s only “Pittsburgh good.” Jack later asks her to sing the song in the car, which results in him bursting into tears. And yes, it’s the very track that Goldsmith and Moore created together.

Watch Rebecca’s rendition of “Invisible Ink” below and try not to cry:

In a behind-the-scenes video, This Is Us composer/music supervisor Siddhartha Khosla shared that he was the one who initially wanted to approach Goldsmith because, as a long-time fan, he had been “dying” to collaborate with the Dawes frontman.

"I was thrilled to get that call," Goldsmith shared. "Sid had a whole plan of attack, how to emotionally kind of guide us with what’s going with Rebecca, and he gave me all the tools to help contribute what I could."

"It's so synonymous with the show, it just immediately elicits a reaction," Moore says of the song in the video. "As all good songs do, they force you to sort of hold up a mirror and you're able to relate it to your own life as specific as possible, and I think that song definitely—it accomplishes that."

Tune into Season 3 of This Is Us Tuesdays at 9 p.m on NBC. Hopefully this is just the beginning of many more collabs to come.
