Behold: The man whose name is Taylor Swift
Imagine having the same name as a celebrity. Now, imagine having the same name as one of the most beloved celebrities of our day and age. You’re imagining the life of Taylor Swift, a man who lives in Seattle who gets fan mail meant for the world-famous pop star every single day.
When that T-Swift initially became famous, 30-year-old Taylor — blonde and blue-eyed, if you were wondering! — was a bit taken aback. “. . . I was kind of like, ‘Okay, I should look into this,” he told KOMO 4 News in Seattle. “So I started researching and was like, ‘Okay, she does country music, that’s great. She writes her own music, that’s awesome!’”
But little did he know that his life would only get more bizarre and confusing from there on out. “[T]here’s that moment when they’re like, ’Wait, your name is actually Taylor Swift? Wait, your real na. . . your. . . your name’s Taylor Swift,’” he explained to KOMO 4. “And it happens all the time, numerous times a day.”
Every single Starbucks trip for him is a bit of a fiasco. “When at Starbucks, they ask your name,” he explained. “And you say Taylor, and it’s like, ‘Oh, wouldn’t it be funny if your last name was Swift?! It’s like… here’s my debit card, ha ha ha, surprise.”
But it’s not just fun encounters on the street and in coffee shops. Taylor had to change his Gmail account — [email protected] — because of adoring letters from fans. “I sing your songs all the time, your songs cheer me up, and this is why I admire you. Who wouldn’t love that?! I mean, it’s just so sweet,” one fan sent him. “I have a folder that currently has 539 emails in it,” Taylor told KOMO 4. “It doesn’t ever end. She’s incredibly famous.”
And his photography website? Yeah, that has NO chance of turning up on Google, amidst millions of articles about the music artist we all know and love. So why not change his name? Taylor actually kind of likes being the guy version of the pop star, telling KOMO 4 jokingly that it’s a “great confidence booster.” “It’s like endless amounts of ‘You’re beautiful, you’re so talented, you’re a great role model, you have a beautiful voice,’ and here I am just like, ‘Oh, thank you,’” he said.
Guess you’ve got to have a great sense of humor if you have to endure your friends poking fun every time “Shake It Off” plays on the radio. But, he can take solace in the fact that he’s not alone in his plight. As Huffington Post points out, public records on Nexis show at 54 Taylor Swifts in the country — except most are young girls in their early 20s.
So maybe guy Taylor is a *little* more alone in that regard. Maybe his name twin will invite him on stage next time she’s in Seattle? Either way, we’re sure he’ll shake it off. (Sorry, had to.)
