Malia Obama went on a secret trip to Bolivia, and she’s so down-to-earth that even her guides didn’t know who she was

This was probably already obvious, but the Obamas are a special family. Michelle and Barack are so incredibly down-to-earth, and it sounds like they’ve raised their daughters, Malia and Sasha, to be pretty like-minded.

In fact, we just heard that Malia Obama went on a secret trip to Bolivia and Peru and spent five days trekking with tour guides who didn’t even know who she was!

They did know that someone in the group was “important,” though, because of the security measures that had to be prepared ahead of time. But they assumed it was a blonde girl in the group, and didn’t realize it was Malia until Bolivian journalists covered the story! Way to fly under the radar, girl. And even though the tour guides didn’t know who they were dealing with, Malia left a lasting impression.

"She was very humble, chatty, spoke Spanish very well. She was mesmerized by the Bolivian landscape, " Gregorio Mamani told The New York Times.

via giphyIt’s not every day that one gets to go trekking in the mountains and jungles of Bolivia and Peru, and it sounds like Malia had an excellent time during her travels. Apart from the security precautions there was no special treatment, and we’re sure that Malia appreciated the anonymity and lack of fuss — she rarely gets away with that here.

As if this trip wasn’t exciting enough, Malia now has something else big to look forward to; her super cool internship with Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. And then comes Harvard University! Phew. We’ve got a go-getter in our midst.
