OK, Malia Obama may have the coolest summer internship
So we’re TOTALLY jealous of Malia Obama. And no, not just because she’s a super cool trendsetter who goes to Lollapalooza at age 16 and is the most stylish person ever. (Although ALL of those things are true.) No, no, we have a brand new reason to envy her: Rumor has it that she’s got the coolest summer internship that is making us totally jealous. No, she’s not scooping ice cream and flipping burgers like a lot of teens over the summer: She (allegedly) is working with Lena Dunham. Yep.
As TMZ reports, the 17-year-old (she just turned 17!) was seen in Brooklyn on the set of Girls this past Thursday. According to sources, she was spotted spending actual time with Lena Dunham — eek!
If the rumors are true and she is interning with Girls, this would be her second TV gig — last year, she interned on Halle Berry’s Extant, where she reportedly made coffee runs for the staff.
Television and film has been an area of interest for Malia for some time. “Malia has expressed some interest in filmmaking,” First Lady Michelle Obama told People back in 2012. “Just like her father, she is an avid reader, and she enjoys movies. But she’s a freshman, so she also knows she has years in college to explore her interest. . . I want them to be as open to possibilities as possible.”
A picture of Malia on set has been floating around the interwebz. Based on the pic, it doesn’t look like Malia is doing any crazy heavy-lifting or grabbing coffee like she was for Extant, but hey, you never know.
We seriously hope these rumors are true, because being able to add a major HBO television show to your resume would be an amazing career advancement. Plus, hangin’ out with Lena? Seriously, super jealous. As Jezebel points out, perhaps the set visit was an early birthday present for Malia. . . but either way, we have a feeling this girl is going places. Who knows—maybe we’ll be seeing her face on the big screen sometime soon!
