We have some scary news about these Maleficent dolls

It turns out that some Maleficent dolls in Britain are malevolent, indeed.

A batch of fake dolls featuring Angelina Jolie’s character from the 2014 film have been seized by British authorities after it was discovered that they contained toxic, possibly fatal chemicals. The dolls were counterfeit merchandise imported from China, and 60 of them were confiscated at the Coventry Airport in England before being destroyed.

The dolls contained phthalates, chemicals that have been linked to diseases like cancer, asthma, birth defects, and male infertility. Now, parents are being warned to watch out for these dolls and make sure they’re the real deal before wrapping them up for Christmas morning.

Local council representative John Horner said, according to the Mirror:

Although this warning was given to Warwickshire, it’s something of which we all should take note. Now that it’s officially December, we’re all thinking about holiday shopping. Costs can totally add up, and it may be tempting to cut corners by buying a cheaper version of a toy online — we get it. But parents, do yourself (and your kids) a favor: Make sure to buy from reputable sources and stores, and remember that if the deal seems too good to be true, it very well could be.
