Malala just perfectly shut down Trump’s comments about a Muslim ban
On December 8th, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, speaking from a place of deep and troubling ignorance, called for a “total and complete” ban against Muslim immigrants entering the United States. In the wake of this statement, many have rightly rebuked Trump, and today Nobel prize winner/ our forever hero Malala Yousafzai took to her platform to smartly shut down Trump’s comments.
“Well, that’s really tragic that you hear these comments which are full of hatred, full of this ideology of being discriminative towards others,” Malala told AFP news agency today at a conference.
As Vox reports, Malala also pointed out to UK’s Channel 4 that this kind of hate speech from politicians and the media isn’t just hugely sad, it’s also dangerous:
Malala then elaborated on this point when speaking to the BBC:
Ever the advocate for education, Malala explained how she believes that schooling is a key strategy in the fight to dismantle terrorism:
We are so glad that Malala took a stand against ignorance, and not only properly shut down the statement, but also used the situation as a teachable moment to talk about the one and only antidote to ignorance- education.
