We are ALL about this major Twitter update

FINALLY *clapping hands emoji*. Twitter just did something we’ve been requesting for a long time, something that has caused us much angst and anxiety and frustration: they got rid of that pesky 140-character limit on their DMs, or direct messages.

“It’s the No. 1 request we get from folks,” explained Sachin Agarwal, who is Twitter’s product manager for DMs. “They want to be able to say what’s on their mind and be themselves.”

I mean, just look at all the unhappy Twitter users who just want more words:

I think it’s safe to say: message received. Now, you can DM someone using up to 10,000(!!!) characters if your heart so desires. In a blog post that came out today, Agarwal says this update will specifically facilitate discussion about “the memes, news, movements, and events that unfold.” It will also be handy for business who conduct customer service over the web, because sometimes you need more than 140 characters to tell Dominos just how much you love their pizza.

This follows a series of updates for Twitter’s direct messaging system, including restoring the ability to send links and photos, as well as creating group messages.

They started rolling out this update today, but don’t freak out if you haven’t seen it yet. It’ll continue going worldwide over the next few weeks, so make sure you have the latest version of the app before attempting to write any novels.
