Maisie Williams has just been cast in the “X-Men” spinoff, and we bet Sophie Turner is SO proud
It’s official, another kickass Stark sister has joined the X-Men franchise. Following in on-screen sister and BFF Sophie Turner’s footsteps, Maisie Williams has officially been cast in the new X-Men spinoff movie The New Mutants. Williams and The Witch breakout star Anya Taylor-Joy have been tapped as two of the leads of the film, which centers around a group of teen mutants coming to terms with their powers.
Taylor-Joy will play Magik, a young sorceress and sister to Colussus, played by Daniel Cudmore in the X-Men films. Williams is set to play Wolfsbane, a werewolf struggling to come to terms with her powers and religion.
The film is based on the 1982 New Mutants comics and will be directed by The Fault in our Stars director Josh Boone. Joining a major franchise is nothing new for Williams, whose Game of Thrones character Arya Stark, has been a fan favorite on the HBO hit for the entirety of its run. Last year, when it was first rumored that she’d be be joining the X-Men franchise, Williams expressed nothing but enthusiasm.
“I can’t say much about it at all, but I would absolutely love to be a part of it, to be a part of the Marvel family, Williams told Entertainment Weekly. “New Mutants looks absolutely incredible and I’ve always loved the idea of spin-offs and Joshua Boone is incredibly talented. So, yeah, sign me up.
We’re sure Turner’s filled Williams in on all the best X-Men secrets. The film is set to go into production sometime this summer so hopefully we’ll be seeing Maisie slay on the big screen in the next year or two!
