Maisie Williams’ X-Men movie is going somewhere we haven’t been before — it’s going to be a horror movie

Are superhero movies getting a little too ordinary for you? Well, get ready to be horrified because the upcoming X-Men spin-off New Mutants is going to be a horror film.

Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones joins Anya Taylor-Joy from The Witch to star in the film. Maisie’s Game of Thrones sister, Sophie Turner, is also getting an X-Men movie, so that’s nice. Love it when sisters can do stuff together! The movie will be based on Marvel’s New Mutants comics. And according to director Josh Boone, this is going to legit be a horror movie. So get ready. He told Entertainment Weekly:

“We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.

A horror-based superhero movie? Color us intrigued. Here’s the synopsis, which does sound pretty scary:

"Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world—they’re just trying to save themselves.

Maisie will play the character Wolfsbane (which makes total sense because of Arya’s connection to dire wolves) and Anya will play Magik. It’s early, and more casting announcements are sure to be made — including the possibility of Rosario Dawson, who would be jumping from a role in the Marvel/Netflix universe to a different role in Fox’s X-Men universe.

But with less than a year to go, we’re already excited at the possibilities this film brings. New Mutants is set to be released on April 13, 2018.
