Maggie proved she is the most badass lady in all the land on last night’s “Walking Dead”
Last night, something happened on The Walking Dead that has us seriously emotional. No, it’s not another heart-wrenching death, but an emotional tribute to one of our favorites, and a recently departed character.
Last night’s episode saw Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) for the first time since their respective romantic partners Glenn and Abraham were brutally killed by Negan in the season premiere. After their deaths, especially Glenn’s, fans of the show were eager to see Maggie’s reaction but were forced to wait a few episodes. Boy was it worth the wait.
After punching Gregory, one of the Hilltop community’s resident creeps and Negan sympathizer, Maggie says to him, “This is our home now, so you’ll have to call me by name. Not Marsha. Not dear. Not honey. Maggie. Maggie Rhee.”
In case you misread that, she announces herself as Maggie Rhee, not Maggie Greene, meaning she’s taking Glenn’s last name, and BRB CRYIN FOR LITERALLY FOREVER. It was a quick, sweet moment for all fans mourning the loss of Glenn and it looks like it’s setting Maggie up to become a leader within the Hilltop community.
Lauren Cohan spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the episode and what it means for Maggie. “Dealing with Gregory seems like it will be an arduous process. And Maggie, my goodness. She’s lost her husband, she’s pregnant and still healing from a horrible and life threatening scare with the baby. It’s an unbelievably vulnerable time for her. But she’s already showcased an astronomical amount of courage in how she got up and kept going. She’s also keeping Glenn and Hershel’s legacies alive through her.”
Since the beginning of the series, Maggie’s had to overcome so many brutal losses but has somehow emerged even stronger. We can’t wait to see what the show has in store for her next–as long as it’s a storyline allowing her to FINALLY catch a break because she could seriously use one.
