Olympic ice dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates are a beautiful couple on and off the ice

Ice dancing is one of the most gorgeous sports out there. And one pair of athletes are helping to make the sport even more lovely at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. Ice dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates are partners on the ice and also in real life. This personal connection is bound to make their program at the Winter Olympics all the more meaningful, so you’ll want to catch them in action.

Back at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, the pair competed together but ended up in eighth place. However, the PyeongChang Games in South Korea look to be more promising for Chock and Bates. As NBC Olympics reported, the 28-year-old Bates is the captain of the U.S. figure skating team and this is his third Olympics. (He competed with a different partner at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.) Chock, who is 25, experienced her first Olympics at Sochi with Bates. During the Olympics in Russia, Chock and Bates weren’t romantically involved, but a lot can change in four years. As Bates told NBC:

"Being a couple off the ice, I think the experience will be a lot more personal together."

At the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the duo earned first place. And at the 2018 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Chock and Bates placed third overall but were first in free skate, during which they performed to the song “Imagine.”

In the below interview, Chock and Bates state how they complement each other when it comes to training and competing. (And we’re sure that helps in their personal lives as well.) They also mention how important it is to have interests outside of skating.

On their website, Chock and Bates note that they are interested in dancing, music, traveling, teaching, and charity. Along with all of that, Chock is a designer and she even designs her looks for the ice.

The couple also has two adorable dogs — well technically, they each have one dog, but they often post photos of both of them on Instagram. “Our dogs look like us!” Bates told Us Weekly. “My dog is blonde and has curly hair, her dog is black and has like really distinct eyebrows.”

They are both based in Michigan, which is where Bates is from. Chock relocated from California. They met in Michigan and amusingly enough, they had gone on a few dates before they were even partners, but it didn’t stick. They started working together in 2011, but it took until Christmastime 2016 for them to become a couple.

Now, these two will be spending Valentine’s Day at the Olympics together. “It’s just enough that we’re going to be at the games together,” Chock told NBC about the romantic holiday.

With their chemistry on and off the ice, you’ll want to check out this beautiful couple when they skate at the PyeongChang Olympics. Because you just might fall in love too.
