Maddie Ziegler will be the first 13-year-old judge on “So You Think You Can Dance”

Maddie Ziegler, the 13-year-old star of Dance Moms and all our favorite Sia videos, is dancing her way over to Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance. Yesterday, the dance competition show announced that Ziegler will be coming on board next season, not as a contestant, but as a judge! Because of course. We already know Ziegler can dance. She performs with emotion and maturity far beyond her years, so it totally makes sense for her to join Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo on the judging panel.

This is the perfect time for Ziegler to join the show, as SYTYCD will be focusing on young dancers this season. Last season, they mixed up their regular format by dividing the dancers into two teams. Street vs. Stage. Now they’re changing things up again. The contestants this season will all be between the ages of 8 and 13. Not to worry! We’ll still get to see our fave SYTYCD alums, because each contestant will be paired with an all-star dancer from a previous season.

The newly formatted show will be called So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation. TBH we think Ziegler is a perfect choice for a judging role. At only 13, she’s already one of the best known dancers in the world. Congrats, Maddie! We can’t wait to tune in.

So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation is set to premiere on Monday, May 30 on Fox. Cue our giddy pirouettes.
