Lupita Nyong’o was a dream in this printed gown at the Tony Awards
We’ve loved Lupita Nyong’o since the moment we set eyes on her. Not only is she an absolutely amazing actress AND filmmaker, but she also holds a master’s degree (from Yale, NBD) and speaks five languages. As if all that wasn’t enough to inspire our everlasting awestruck wonder, Lupita can also rock a dress like nobody’s business.
For real, guys. When Lupita walks the red carpet, she shuts it down. Every. Single. Time. Her gorgeous gown for this year’s Tony Awards is no exception. It’s a colorful, textured wonder. She basically looks like she’s dressed in pure, beautiful joy. Behold…
She looks like walking confetti, right? (And we mean that in the best possible way.)
Jason Wu designed Lupita’s gown, and according to Vogue, he considers her the “perfect muse.” He also shared his inspiration behind the design: “I was looking at these Tetris colors and [wanted to] create something bright and exciting and textural…When I think about Broadway, it’s exuberant and fun and full of characters. I wanted this dress to have those qualities.”
The gown was hand-embroidered with layers upon layers of sequins to give it a 3D effect. The result is beyond gorgeous.
Then again, we wouldn’t expect anything less from Lupita. #fashiongoals for all eternity!
