This ‘Harry Potter’ star is shutting down homophobic trolls

Luna Lovegood is taking a stand against trolls, and we’re not talking about the kind of troll you’d find in the Hogwarts dungeon.

Evanna Lynch, who played Luna through the Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows Harry Potter films, is fed up with nasty Internet trolls who leave mean and cruel comments scattered across the Internet. They’ve popped up on her Facebook, Twitter and Instagram — and after noticing a particularly “ugly Instagram thread” she felt enough was enough. Lynch took to her Facebook page this weekend to send a message out to these voices spreading hate, and politely asked them to, “please unfollow [her] on all social media platforms. And then block [her].”

The really hardcore Internet hate directed her way, seems to have kicked into overdrive with the vote in Ireland over the weekend, when the country became the first to legalize gay marriage by popular vote. Lynch, who is from Ireland, couldn’t deal with the negativity that came her way on social media after the vote, and countered the online hate by explaining that she believes, “in always promoting a positive message and I don’t want your poison all over my carefully curated wall of light and positivity . . . [I] cannot deal with this kind of venom, and more to the point it is wasted energy on your part to put it here.” BTW: We’ve got to assume that the “ugly Instagram thread” happened on this inspiring image:

That’s not all. Lynch continued by bluntly asking these trolls, “Why are you following me?” Citing the fact that they probably clicked “LIKE” because she played Luna, Lynch explains that Luna wouldn’t approve of their Internet-hate either. “Luna Lovegood’s love is a GOOD kind of love. It is not conditional or possessive or needy or demanding. It doesn’t fall apart the moment you expose a piece of yourself that is unconventional or even unbecoming. Luna is a character who accepts all people and creatures in all forms, loves them for exactly what they are and who is constantly in awe at the diversity, strangeness and newness of each being she encounters. Did you ever wonder why she stares openly, unblinkingly and for uncomfortable periods of time at people? It’s because she is literally falling in love with an odd shaped freckle on their nose, the quirky way they pronounce ‘asked’, the uncontainable awkwardness they can’t hide for a beat longer under such loving scrutiny.” One million points to Ravenclaw.
