Why Luna Lovegood is totally jealous of the “Fantastic Beasts” cast
It’s a great year to be a Harry Potter fan. Not only are a new Harry Potter-related book and play coming out this summer (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), but there are brand new stories about the wizarding world popping up on the Pottermore fan site and a new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, coming out in November.
This weekend, People caught up with 24-year-old Evanna Lynch, best known for playing the delightfully quirky Luna Lovegood, to ask her about the upcoming film.
“I am so excited,” Lynch, who was in the United States to run the New York City Half Marathon, told People. “Those are my two favorite things: animals and Harry Potter.”
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them stars Academy Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne as Fantastic Beasts author Newt Scamander as he hunts strange creatures in 1926 New York City. As some super-fans may know, Newt Scamander’s grandson, Rolf, actually ends up marrying Luna Lovegood—but unfortunately, Evanna Lynch has not been made part of the new film.
“I do get a little bit jealous when I think of them filming right now,” she told People. “I miss it.”
Hardcore fans of the series have called for a Luna Lovegood tie-in of some kind, but Lynch insists she didn’t get a call to participate in the new film. That’s too bad. We guess all we can do is watch the Fantastic Beasts trailer for the umpteeth time to salve the wound.
