Luke Perry’s daughter just addressed trolls who are criticizing her grieving process—not that she should have to
On March 4th, iconic television star Luke Perry passed away due to complications from a stroke. The father of two was just 52 years old. And now, Perry’s daughter, Sophie, is addressing internet trolls who are criticizing the way she’s grieving the loss of her dad. In a candid post on Instagram, she pointed out that she “did not ask for this attention” nor did she ask to be “be thrown into some virtual spotlight.” Sophie also reminded her followers that she’s just 18 years old, and that the way in which she grieves her father is—and should be—highly personal. She acknowledged that while she’s definitely hurting, she knows her father wouldn’t want her to stop living.
"YES I am hurt and sad and crying and beside myself with what happened to my dad. It’s the worst thing to ever happen in my life. And I am torn the f**k up over it," she wrote. "But I’m not going to sit in my room and cry day in and day out until the internet has deemed it appropriate for me to do otherwise. And if you knew my dad you would know he wouldn't want me to. So you shouldn’t either."
She concluded by writing that those who do not agree with—and feel the need to shame—her should just unfollow her.
Sophie initially posted the below several days after Perry’s death:
There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and let’s use this as a reminder to judge a little less today.
