Lucy Lawless says she’s game to play Xena again so let’s make this happen, Hollywood
Once a warrior princess, always a warrior princess, right? At least, according to Xena: Warrior Princess star, Lucy Lawless, that’s true. During this age of the television reboot, she’s politely wondering why she can’t get her own revival, even if it’s just a two-hour movie. But hey, a two-hour movie is more Xena than we’ve had in the last 15 years, so we’ll take it.
At Comic-Con last weekend, Lawless (who you might know most recently as being Ron Swanson’s wife, Diane, on Parks and Recreation), was asked about the possibility of bringing Xena back to TV. She told Den of Geek it’s something she’s been thinking about herself.
“I’ve been pitching that, actually,” Lawless explained. “The fans really do want that, and I’ve met some people who’ve crowdfunded some things, and I’m just like, ‘Why don’t we just do that?’” Crowd-sourcing might be the best possible way to do it. Remember how well it worked for the Veronica Mars movie? Remember how it just recently worked again for Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s Con Man? If fans want more Xena to happen, they’ll make it happen.
And it would be GREAT if Xena could happen. Guys, she was a warrior princess. She was trying to redeem herself for her past wrongs, and she fought with a giant sword! Plus, the person she took on all her crazy, heroic adventures was her best friend, Gabrielle, and they saved the day together. Butt-kicking female besties, fighting the God of War? Why hasn’t this been revived already?
Eh, there might actually be a reason. At the end of the series, Xena kinda dies, and is decapitated. As Lawless points out that is just a “Technicality,” and could be easily remedied.
“Screw her head back on, it’s a bit wonky, and she’s got a really bad attitude since she’s been in a box for 20 years, so they’ve got to get Xena’s mojo back, and go and save the world somehow.”
OK, we’re liking the sound of this Xena 2.0 more and more already. There aren’t definite plans for anything right now, but whatever happens, Lawless is game for it. We are, too.
