Lucy Hale’s 16 best beauty looks, from her “girl next door” makeup to her slicked-back bobs
Most of us were introduced to Lucy Hale as Aria Montgomery, the fictional character she played on CW’s hit show Pretty Little Liars. In the first few seasons, Aria wore her hair in long, luscious curls, but in season seven she ditched her well-known locks for what has since become Hale’s signature look: a brunette bob with loose, beauty waves. Hale’s TV character is undoubtedly a style icon, but Hale is one in her own right, too.
She most frequently works with celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan and hairstylist Kristin Ess for her many different looks. Though she’s most recognizable with a tousled bob and breezy, playful makeup, Hale is actually quite the chameleon, switching up her look depending on the event or simply on a whim. This makes sense, especially since she bounces back and forth from being the star of suspenseful thriller films to playing a cheery and ambitious fashion designer in the CW show Katy Keene. From her “girl next door” vibes to her Morticia Addams-inspired makeovers, below are some of Hale’s best beauty looks over the years.
At 2020 Paris Fashion Week, Hale proved that professional and playful can coexist. Her hair is sleek and straight with a dramatic side part, while her makeup keeps the look young with a monochrome pink color on her eyes, cheeks, and lips.
Matching eyeshadow to dress color isn’t always the answer, but in this case, it so was. Hale sported a warm smokey eye with a pop of mint green shadow in her inner lids to match her gown. The nude lip shade and undone updo balance out the glitz and glam of the rest of the look.
This look from the 2017 Teen Choice Awards is all about the eyes. With her slicked-back hairstyle, delicate earrings, and minimal face makeup, Hale’s eyes popped thanks to her pink smokey eye.
Hale wore this Addams family-inspired look to the premiere of her film Truth or Dare, and it has us rethinking our Halloween costumes for this year. Instead of jet black hair, she went for strawberry blonde waves pulled into a loose ponytail, and then brought in the dark elements with a bold brow and a deep purple lip.
Hale rocked this loose, messy updo to the 2019 iHeart Radio Awards with a blazer and leather shorts for an edgy, put-together look. With her hair pulled back, her brushed-up brows, smokey cat-eye, and peachy lip were able to shine.
Hale’s green eyes stand out on their own, but this all-over green eyeshadow really stole the show at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards. Her jet black bob and bar earring added an extra edge to the look.
Red lips and tousled waves are a classic look for Hale—she nails it every time. We especially love the added drama from her played-up blush and extra-long lashes.
Hairstylist Kristin Ess used her own Rose Gold Temporary Tint spray (which is only $12 from Target) to color Hale’s then-blonde hair pink. Hale kept the rest of the look monochrome with pink eyeshadow and lips to match.
9Blunt blonde bob
Everything about this blonde bob is perfect, so it makes sense that her makeup is kept relatively natural and the jewelry minimal to let the hair do all the talking.
Hale rocked this wavy lob with balayage highlights to the 2014 American Music Awards—before she was crowned the queen of the bob. Her dark lip and minimal eye makeup gave the look an added cool-girl feel.
This look has us seeing stars and planning our next New Year’s Eve look already. From her razor-edge blonde bob to her dark smokey eye, we want to recreate all of it. Find a similar set of galactic-inspired hairpins here.
12The perfect pony
This short-haired star threw a curveball at the 2018 Showtime Emmy Eve Nominees Celebration when she showed up with the most perfect, tousled ponytail we’ve ever seen. She went for an understated glam look to go with her long extensions, featuring a warm-toned smokey eye and diamond drop earrings.
Hale proved, yet again, that she’s not afraid of a dark lip color at the Pretty Little Liars final season celebration event. Her honey blonde, brushed-out waves serve as the perfect contrast to her gothic makeup look.
Hale was a total showstopper at the 2018 Max Mara Women In Film Face of The Future event. Her look was business glam, balancing her revealing blazer-no-shirt outfit with a delicate updo, elegant emerald earrings, and long, feathery lashes.
This is one of our favorite takes on the pearl accessory trend. Hale’s dream team stylists, Deenihan and Ess, teamed up to create this messy glam look and we are in love with everything about it. Shop some pearl accessories here to try the look at home.
We want to dance all night long in this disco-perfect look. The sparkly, shimmery magenta eyeshadow paired with the glossy lip are exactly what dreams are made of.
