Why is everybody freaking out about this Lucille Ball statue?

In honor of one of our all-time favorite comic actresses, Lucille Ball, a statue of the legend was erected in her hometown of Celoron, New York, depicting Ball in “Vitameatavegimin,” one of the most beloved episodes of “I Love Lucy” in which the character of Lucy accidentally gets drunk while taping a commercial that requires a LOT of takes for a health serum that contains a LOT of alcohol.

The thing is, locals are NOT very pleased with statue. Not because they don’t love Lucy (who among us doesn’t love Lucy), but because most people tend to find the statue, well, kind of scary. Take a look and judge for yourselves.

As Buzzfeed reports, a Facebook group was started called “We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue!” The group currently boasts over 5,000 members, which is a LOT of people, considering the town only has about 12,500 residents.

“The people of Celoron have erected this horrible statue of Lucy in her hometown,” the anonymous founder explained on the page. “It is a nightmare. We want them to replace it.”

“Lucille Ball was not only an amazing comedienne, but she was a stunning beauty,” the self-described “big fan” told Yahoo News. “Her sense of humor only made her more beautiful.This statue looks nothing like the beautiful Lucy we all know. If for no other reason than that… the statue should go.”

“It looks like a monster,” the anonymous Lucy-lover concluded. “When you see it at night, it is frightening.”

We love the idea of Lucy having a statue in the town she grew up in, but at this point, maybe the best course of action, for the sake of her memory, would be to scrap this statue, go back to the drawing board, and redesign a statue that celebrated the actress and comedian the way we all want to celebrate her.
