#RelationshipGoals we learned from the most shipped couples on Tumblr
If there’s one thing we learned in 2015, it’s that fandoms only get stronger as time goes on. And the proof, of course, lies in this year’s most shipped couples on Tumblr.
Just in case you’re like “what is this word you say, ‘shipping’?”, we shall explain. Shipping is when fans pair two people (who may or may not be fictional) together in a romantic context. While these relationships don’t always exist in real life, that’s kind of the best part. You can allow your imagination to run wild as you creatively dream up an ideal love life for the people and characters you admire.
Most importantly, shipped couples can give us all something to aspire to. In other words, #RelationshipGoals. Now, let’s see what we can learn from the Top 5, most reblogged ships of 2015! And yes, a list was compiled, because the Internet is a beautiful, beautiful place.
Coming in at #5 is a fairy tale favorite: Captain Swan (aka Captain Hook and Emma Swan from Once Upon a Time).
In a beautiful twist of fate, this TV couple has taught us that true love can withstand life’s greatest obstacles—even death. Captain Hook may have gone to the Underworld in the name of love, but Emma isn’t going to give up on him. She’s even willing to share a heart with him so that they can be together. (Okay, now we’re tearing up a bit.)
Oh, and doesn’t this GIF explain it all?
The #4 spot goes to Arrow‘s Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, who are fondly referred to as Olicity. Without fail, these two have shown us the importance of being there for others – both emotionally and physically. Through Felicity, Oliver finds a source of light and honesty. Because of this, she acts as his emotional anchor. And if you scroll through the countless Tumblr posts dedicated to this duo, you’ll see that they aren’t the type to miss a good hugging/kissing/supportive opportunity:
Supernatural‘s Dean Winchester & Castiel effortlessly secured their place as the 3rd, most-shipped couple.
Despite all the bizarre, deadly, and downright crazy situations these two have gotten themselves into, Destiel has survived. The perfect example: when Castiel brought Dean back from Hell, proving that they were destined to be together forever.
Plus, who could forget about all their glorious hugs?
It wouldn’t be a shipping post without some YouTubers, which is why Dan Howell and Phil Lester (also known as Dan and Phil or Phan, as per their fandom’s vocab) have scored second place. Above all, these two represent the best of the Internet. They met online in the comment’s section on one of Phil’s videos, met in person in 2009, and quickly became friends who’ve collaborated on many successful projects. I mean, it’s no wonder why fans have shipped these two time and time again.
Ah yass, at long last we’ve reached #1, the most shippable of all the ships: Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson from One Direction.
Larry Stylinson has established that the little things can often mean the most in the grand scheme of things. A flirtatious look, a pat on the back, and even a simple tweet can make or break a relationship. Perfect example:
After all, these two have experienced some ups and downs over the years, but they’ve still remained friends (and One Direction members).
