When she’s not driving her fans insane by orchestrating fake album releases, Nicki Minaj is busy giving out pretty amazing life advice. Case in point: her recent interview with Marie Claire.
Minaj covers Marie Claire‘s November “Power” issue, and in it she speaks out about why it’s important for women to put their careers — and themselves — first, offering A+ marriage advice and life advice in one fell swoop.
In an Instagram post about the cover story she wrote, “I promise if you trust me, I’ll lead you to greatness. Close your eyes and trust” — and we’re definitely inclined to believe her! Everything she touches seems to turn to gold (*ahem* The Pinkprint) and her confidence is infectious.
Minaj is known for being blunt and no-nonsense in interviews, so we weren’t surprised to see her speaking her mind on marriage and relationships. She’s always willing to tell it like it is — even when a reporter comes at her sideways.
In an interview with The New York Times last year, writer Vanessa Grigoriadis made the mistake of asking Nicki if she “thrives on drama” because more than one man in her life was involved in a beef (for the record, Nicki had nothing to do with any of their grievances).
Immediately calling out the sexism of the question, Minaj replied, “That’s disrespectful. Why would a grown-ass woman thrive off drama? What do the four men you just named have to do with me thriving off drama? Why would you even say that? That’s so peculiar.”
She went on to chastise Grigoriadis for “put[ting] down a woman for something that men do, as if they’re children and I’m responsible,” and quickly ending the interview. Because nobody messes with Nicki.
Seriously, though, what’s clear from both of these interviews is that Minaj doesn’t stand for anyone’s sexism — period. And for that, we absolutely love her.
