Last night, at the American Music Awards, Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid proved that they were still the adorable, swoon-worthy couple we all know and love. At the award show, Malik won his first solo AMA award, for New Artist of the Year, since departing One Direction. Hadid, who co-hosted the event along with SNL alum Jay Pharoah, watched from backstage as he accepted the award.

Hadid (the ever-supportive girlfriend) was the first person there to congratulate him on the win. As Malik made his way backstage, Seventeen captured Hadid rushing up to the “Pillowtalk” singer and giving him a HUGE hug.

Check it out:

It was quite a night for the couple as Hadid debuted her Melania Trump impersonation and overall, killed it as co-host.

Malik, in addition to winning an award, had a surprise run-in with former bandmate Niall Horan. As Horan passed Malik, he paused to briefly shake the “Fool For You” singer’s hand and Malik seemed genuinely surprised.

During the night, Malik also referenced his former band during his acceptance speech. “This one has just my name on it, right?” he said, making a reference to the awards he’d won with One Direction

Since his departure from the group, Malik has made it clear that he didn’t enjoy his five years with the group. Earlier this year, he told NME that he didn’t keep in touch with his former 1D bandmates. “I had every intention of remaining friends with everybody, but I guess certain phone numbers have changed and I haven’t received calls from a lot of people,” he said. “I’ve reached out to a few of them and not got a reply. Certain people have pride issues, but it’s stuff you overcome in time.”

Aside from all the *excitement* of the night, we love the support Hadid and Malik have for each other and we can’t wait to see them dazzle at award shows in the future.
