A lot of the promposal stories we hear about are about someone asking their boyfriend/girlfriend/super-crush to the Big Dance, and that is AWESOME, but there is something so very, very, very sweet about a bestie asking his bestie to prom.

Such was the case with Jacob Lescenski and Anthony Martinez of Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas. Lescenski, who identifies as straight, had no one to go to prom with. His BFF Martinez, who identifies as gay, was also dateless. Lescenski knew that Martinez was feeling blue re: not having a prom date, so Lescenski decided to ask his friend to the dance in the cutest, goofiest, most awesome way possible. He enlisted a mutual friend to design a promposal banner and surprised his BFF in the hallways of their school. The picture below pretty much sums the whole thing up:

Martinez took to social media to share the good news:

“He’s my best friend and a real man given that he had the guts to fulfill my gay student council dream of always helping out planning dances and never getting asked. I couldn’t ask for a better person in my life.”

Though Lescenski was a little nervous about being judged, he set aside his worries and asked anyway, because bestie-ship conquers all:

“If it made Anthony happy, and fulfilled his dream of going to prom with a guy, and had a date to prom myself, nothing else mattered,” Lescenski told CNN.

As sweet as it is to imagine these besties bro-ing out at prom, it’s even sweeter knowing the effect that this promposal has had on the world around these friends. As Martinez tweeted:

Have the best time at prom, sweet dudes!
