These days it seems like everyone is meeting their perfect match on social media. Through direct messages and pokes and winks, the most epic love stories are blossoming all year round. This isn’t at all surprising since online dating is now the second most popular way to meet someone new. Seriously, just take a look at the twitter hashtag: #WeMetOnTwitter. But even better than that, social media has opened up a whole new world for creating new friendships. Chances are you’ll bond with a new online BFF over a fandom, or it could all begin with a single Tumblr reblog or magical Twitter follow.

Research has shown that social network users have twice as many friends online as in real life. We’re pretty sure this has something to do with being able to hangout with online friends without pants and many would agree.

Like these 18 people on Whisper who’ve shared stories about finding their internet best friends.
