Having a crush can be AGONIZING. You analyze every little phrase, every twitch of body movement, hoping to get an idea of how this person feels — only to very frequently come up empty. Does he/she like you? Does he/she like you not? Luckily, Snapchat can give you some insight into your crush’s feelings.

First of all, it’s important to note that Snapchat has the advantage when it comes to crush-demystifying because a recent study found that Snapchat is THE social media app people turn to for romantic exploration.

The researchers explain:

“Findings show that the main difference in motives were that Snapchat was used more for flirting and finding new love interests, whereas Facebook was still the main social networking site used for keeping in touch with friends. Further, when presenting users with a series of potentially jealousy provoking scenarios, Snapchat elicited higher levels of jealousy than did Facebook.”

Interesting. It’s also worth noting that Fortune recently announced that Snapchat is officially more popular than Instagram or Twitter, among teens at least. It’s unclear if that extends upwards.

And, secondly, Snapchat specifically has more features that allow you a glimpse into just how much attention someone is paying to your photos and videos. As relationship expert Laurel House told Mashable“More than merely looking at your profile, Snapchat lets you see how many photos and how many times that person viewed you, letting you see just how much others like what they see.”

She continues, “Not sure if someone in real life notices you? You might not be aware of their in-person side glances and sly looks. But on Snapchat, there’s no hiding. Regardless of whether or not someone clicks ‘like,’ you know that they have looked.”

A Snapchat star, Mark Kaye, offered Mashable some insight as well, claiming that another good indicator of feelings is reciprocity“The better indicator of how interested your crush may be is how quickly they open your Snaps. When you send them a snap do they open it right away? Do they snap you right back or do they wait a really long time?”

So, the next time you have a crush, maybe turn to Snapchat for clues into your crush’s interest. Or you could maybe just ASK the person. But this is more fun, right?
