When you’ve dealt with abusive relationships of any kind, be it physical, emotional, mental or otherwise, navigating life and love may become a lot more complicated. Depending on the severity, the pain and suffering someone endures during the time spent in an abusive relationship will almost always leave unwanted lingering effects. Even after having the courage to walk away from an abusive situation for many survivors finding the road to healing, creating healthy bonds, and stepping back into the dating world can feel impossible.

In fact, it is very common for those who’ve dealt with abusive relationships to feel waves of fear when establishing new intimate relationships. And this is perfectly normal since these individuals have seen first hand, all the ways love can hurt.
