You are about to fall in love with a hippo-pig thanks to the trailer for Netflix’s “Okja”

Thanks to Netflix, we have a new pet we need. We all share a special fondness in our hearts for our domesticated critters. Cats. Dogs. Rabbits.  What if your pet wasn’t a small furry companion? What if it was a massive hippo-pig?

Now, you don’t have to ponder.  Netflix’s new film, Okja, givesus to just that. Okja tells the story of Mija, a young woman who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend.  A gargantuan animal called a “superpig” and named Okja.

We dare you to watch this trailer and not fall head over heels for this animated, hippo-piggy friend.

Seo-Hyeon Ahn, a newcomer, plays the kick-ass lead.  Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano and Lily Collins star in the film.

Unfortunately, this wonderful gem of a film hasn’t had the smoothest ride as of late.

The film has been stirring up drama at the Cannes Film Festival.  Netflix will not run the film in theaters. This has thrown the French exhibition industry into a tizzy. To top it off, Pedro Almodovar, this year’s Cannes Jury President, has publicly stated his difficulties awarding a non-theater film the top honor of the festival.

Tilda Swinton, who stars in Okja, responded to the Cannes Jury President in Deadline:

“It’s a statement that the president made, and it’s really important that the president feels free to make whatever statement he or she wants to make… The truth is we didn’t actually come here for prizes, we came her to show this film. And it is true that we get the wonderful privilege to show this film on this screen. I think it’s an enormous and really interesting conversation that’s just beginning... I really think is that there is room for everyone.

We don’t care if it’s in theaters or on streaming devices.  We’ve fallen for the loveable, Okja, and her pal, Mija.
