Here’s what’s going on with the alleged Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift feud over Kesha
On Friday, it was announced that Kesha wouldn’t be able to escape her contract with producer Dr. Luke, a man who has allegedly abused her for the past ten years. As you can imagine, this rocked not only the entire world—but also the music industry.
Countless artists raised their voices in solidarity with Kesha, trying to come to terms with this tragic turn of events. According to Kesha’s mom, one such musician was Taylor Swift, who yesterday donated $250,000 to Kesha as a “show of support during this difficult time.”
One singer wasn’t (allegedly) stirred by this action. Once she found out about Swift’s act, Demi Lovato tweeted:
According to Us Weekly, one of Swift’s fans addressed Demi’s comments on Instagram, suggesting that she was taking the focus off Kesha by putting it on Swift and herself. “At least I’m talking about it,” Lovato responded. “Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn’t grow up with money and def haven’t made as much as her. At least I speak up about s–t that’s uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7.”
Demi then made sure to add, “There’s no ‘rivalry.’ I just give more f–ks than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person.”
And when the fan maintained that Kesha’s mom was appreciative of the donation and calling out Taylor Swift wasn’t the answer, Demi stated, “Didn’t shade Taylor. If you take it that way than fine. I’m just tired of seeing women use ‘women empowerment’ and ‘feminism’ to further brands without actually being the ones that have the uncomfortable conversations. I get shade and I don’t give a f–k because someone has to be the one to take it. At least I’m getting my hands dirty.”
While many Twitterverse residents have already taken sides, many more are choosing to focus on the issue at hand:
Perhaps Kesha’s mom said it best when she tweeted:
