Louis Tomlinson made his solo debut as an EDM artist on Fallon — and it’s a total banger

Another day, another former Directioner taking his life in a totally new, well, direction.

On Tuesday, January 25th, it was Louis Tomlinson, alongside Steve Aoki, who tried something different. The singer debuted his new EDM jam “Just Hold On” on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, roughly 10 months after his former bandmate Zayn Malik made his live TV debut in the States on the same program.

Dressed in a striped jacket over a black tee and jeans — and of course, rocking his token bedhead mop — Tomlinson’s vocals were on point, and we can totally see this one being a crowd-pleasing banger in U.S. clubs in approximately 10 seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKN6xaXXF-U&t=4

Of course it’s a bummer for 1D fans that the boys have gone off to do their own thing, with all five working on solo music careers, and Harry Styles set to star in the summer World War II Christopher Nolan film Dunkirk.

But at least the music they’ve created solo has actually been successful, which is a lot more than one can say for past boy bands and girl groups that have split up, only to find one member become incredibly successful and the rest fade away into nostalgic memory.

Given that Tomlinson and Aoki’s single debuted at No. 2 on the official U.K Singles Chart, it looks like he’ll avoid the Chris Kirkpatrick curse.
