This classic TV show is officially getting a Netflix reboot

It seems we are living in the time for TV reboots. First, we had ABC’s The Muppets, then CBS’ Star Trek, the upcoming Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix, and now Netflix is rebooting Lost in Space!

Netflix announced yesterday that they would premiere the ten-episode run of the new show in 2018, which will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless of Last Witch Hunter, Power Rangers, and Dracula Untold fame. Prison Break executive producer Zack Estrin will serve as showrunner.

According to Netflix:

Many of our parents are familiar with the original Lost in Space TV show, which first aired in 1965 on CBS. The original series, like the new one, followed the Robinson family as they set off for Alpha Centauri. The mission goes awry when the family’s ship is sabotaged and sent into deep space.

Netflix is pretty pumped about this reboot. Cindy Holland, Netflix VP of Original Content, said:

Most of us are unfamiliar with the original (save for the famous “Danger, Will Robinson” quote or the 1998 movie starring Friends alum Matt LeBlanc), but we do love ourselves some sci-fi, so we’re excited to give this show a shot! It seems in the next few years exploring deep space will be a familiar theme on television. For those of us unable to afford a ticket on SpaceX, this is the next best thing — the excitement of space exploration, all from the safety and comfort of your sofa!
