All the times Lorde responded awesomely to tough situations
It’s hard to believe that Lorde is just 17. She’s already released a full-length album that charted at number three on the Billboard 200, she was featured on Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list, and was one of Time’s “most influential teenagers in the world.” She sang “All Apologies” with the remaining ex-members of Nirvana. She’s had a MAC collection made after her album, Pure Heroine. And she writes all her own songs. Lorde is one of the most genuinely prolific musicians, and she’s not even 18. And here I am, proud of myself for waking up before 9am and making a cup of coffee instead of chugging Diet Coke.
But just because she’s a creative genius doesn’t mean she still can’t act like a teenager. When things get weird or uncomfortable, Lorde knows how to laugh it off like the classiest 17-year-old ever. Here are some instances that prove Lorde knows how to keep her cool:
When South Park made fun of her
South Park is known for its sometimes cringe-worthy satire of celebs and musicians, so when they featured a cartoon Lorde in one of their recent episodes, the real Lorde was pretty chill about it. The episode has Lorde get on stage and sing, “I am Lorde ya ya ya ya,” while the crowd comments, “Lorde sucks, she’s not as hot in person.” In response to the episode, Lorde didn’t get angry. Instead, she laughed it off, mimicking her South Park alter-ego quite perfectly. She said, “We [were] actually in my hotel room, [going] ‘Ya ya ya ya ya I’m Lorde! Ya ya ya! for like an hour, because that’s [what] they do on the episode, so. . .” So there.

And that’s not the only time she’s handled potentially upsetting moments in the spotlight with flawless poise. . .
That time Iggy Azalea wasn’t impressed with her rendition of Nirvana’s “All Apologies”
After Lorde performed “All Apologies” at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction this last April, Iggy had some issues with this, and supposedly stated, “Lorde is not Kurt Cobain’s peer.” Whether this was out of context or not, Lorde responded in the most tactful way, ever. Lorde said, “I enjoyed it. I had a good time. That’s all that mattered.”
When Lorde stood up for Iggy Azalea’s bad music review
Shortly after Complex magazine featured Iggy Azalea on their cover, one of their music writers wrote up a scathing review about The New Classic, Iggy’s latest album. Lorde didn’t think this was cool, and vocalized her concern on Tumblr: “bugs me how publications like complex will profile interesting artists in order to sell copies/get clicks and then sh*t on their records? . . .have a stance on an artist and then stick to it. don’t act like you respect them then throw them under the bus.” Well said, girl. Well said.
The way she called out racist comments about her boyfriend
Last December, Tyler the Creator reposted a photo of Lorde and her boyfriend with the caption, “Hhahahahaha.” Soon people began taking their ignorant, racist thoughts to Twitter, saying awful things about the adorable couple. Not okay. While I probably would have freaked out, Lorde calmly Tweeted back in her typical Lorde-like way, “Is that supposed to make me feel something?” So awesome.
When Lorde called out Photoshop
Back in March, two photos of Lorde from the same show surfaced online. One showed a few bumps on her face, and the other clearly had Photoshopped them out. Instead of ignoring the incident, she used the opportunity to take a stand against Photoshopping. “I find this curious,” Lorde said on Twitter, “two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok :-).” All of us (well, most of us) break out, and Lorde is no exception. Girl is totally cool with her blemishes, and we love her so fiercely for this.
