Lorde Just Landed Our Dream Job: Curating the ‘Mockingjay’ Soundtrack

Attention all Lorde fans, Hunger Games fans, and fans that are one in the same: It was recently announced that Lorde will be curating the new Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack. Needless to say, we’re over-the-moon excited (and, admittedly, a little jealous). Aside from curating the new soundtrack, Lorde will be also creating a song of her own for the film. As for all of the other tracks—they’re totally up for speculation. And speculate we will! So, Lorde . . . if you’re reading this, might we suggest a few songs?

Sia – “Burn the Pages

Sia released a crop of new music this year with her latest album, 1000 Forms of Fear. And, seeing as though “Elastic Heart” made it to the previous Hunger Games soundtrack, I can’t help but wonder if she’ll be returning for a second time. If so, good luck picking from all those good songs, Lorde. My favorite has to be “Burn the Pages:”

Yesterday is gone and you will be OK
Place your past into a book
Burn the pages let them cook
Yesterday is dead and gone and so today
Place your past into a book
Burn the pages let them cook

Zola Jesus – “Dangerous Days”

Zola Jesus’ “Dangerous Days” is a far cry from the more cinematic sounds of her Versions album, but she has a way of bringing an ineffable strength to all of her music. Not to mention, “Dangerous Days” might echo an appropriate sentiment. It is, after all, The Hunger Games.

You’re gonna win these odd days
You never stood to fight for your name
And I will be there unspoken, curious

Side note: Zola Jesus she has a forthcoming album, Taiga, set for release in October (and it looks incredible).

Vaults – “Premonitions”

“Premonitions” is all things musically delicious; it’s heart stopping-ly gorgeous, moody, and uplifting all at the same time. Don’t ask me how, just listen to it. If these sounds don’t get your heart fluttering, I don’t know what will.

Let’s take it right back to where we used to go
But we never look back
No, we only look forward to other new pain
And violence turned to blame
No, we never look back

No, we only look forward with all our faith
Hearts broken from the start
With the feel that we were born to a fault
Only to be held tall by the writing on the wall
We don’t need no premonitions, no

Coldplay – “O”

I’m looking at Coldplay like I am Sia; the band has a wealth of incredible music from their latest album Ghost Stories, and they’ve provided sounds to The Hunger Games once before. Considering the fact that the movie is titled Mockingjay, I think a song alluding to birds is fairly appropriate. That, and we could use a bittersweet love ballad up in here:

Flock of birds
Hovering above
Just a flock of birds
It’s how you think of love

And I always
Look up to the sky
Pray before the dawn
‘Cause they fly always
Sometimes they arrive
Sometimes they are gone
They fly on

Diplo feat. Faustix and Imanos & Kai – “Revolution”

Because a pump-up song is necessary when you’re fighting The Capitol:

Can you see it?
The worst is over
The monsters in my head are scared of love
Fallen people, listen up!
It’s never too late to change our luck

So don’t let them steal your light
Don’t let them break your stride
There is light on the other side
And you’ll see all the raindrops falling behind
It’s a revolution
Make it out tonight
It’s a revolution
