Lorde may have just given SUCH a generous donation to this children’s charity

We love when celebrities give back and we love it even more when they do it so secretly that we might just miss it. That’s what happened when Daltons Gym Charitable Trust started a Givealittle page for their “Fuel The Need” initiative. The New Zealand-based charity wanted to raise $20,000 for the Upper Hutt district to provide 50 free lunches for the students who need it. They weren’t sure if they were going to make that goal, until a donor named Ella Yelich-O’Connor stepped in.

In case you didn’t know, Ella Yelich-O’Connor is singer Lorde‘s given name, and she gave $20,000 — AKA, everything the charity needs to get their project started.

She accompanied her donation with a sweet note:

Manuel Dalton, who runs the fund, spoke to Stuff about the incredible gesture. He said he “wasn’t aware who Ella Yelich-O’Connor was and when people told me it was Lorde, I said ‘gosh, oh my Lord.’”

That’s a pretty appropriate response.

While Lorde’s representatives haven’t officially confirmed that this money came from the singer herself, we know that this would be totally in character for the 19-year-old. No matter what, we’re happy the students at the Upper Hutt school district will no longer have to worry about their lunch.
