These long-lost sisters found each other again after posting identical messages on Facebook

Katie Doak of Phoenix, Arizona, was adopted when she was 18 months old when her birth mother was no longer able to take care of her. The 17-year-old has wanted to find her birth mother and her half-sister Kelsey Wilson throughout her teen years, but this past year has been, as Katie puts it, “the main push.”

So here’s what that “main push” led to:  As People reports, this past Monday, Katie got on Facebook, posting the following picture of herself with a sign including all the information she knew about her birth family, asking her Facebook friends to help spread the word and track down her birth mom and sister.

After sharing all the info she had re: her birth family, local news outlet 12 News caught word of the post, interviewed Katie, and boosted her search’s signal. Within hours of the news story being released, someone who knew Katie’s half-sister got in touch with the contact information.

The two girls spoke for the first time on the phone on Wednesday night.

“It wasn’t as awkward as I was expecting it to be, it was more like I’ve known her and it was really easy to talk to her,” Katie told People. “She’s really sweet, and I really look forward to getting to know her a lot more.”

When Katie got in touch with her sister she found out, to her amazement, that the previous year Kelsey had also tried to find Katie using the exact same Facebook methods. Here are the the two pictures, side by side:

As Katie learned from Kelsey, she has five more siblings, some of whom have been adopted, some who live with her biological grandparents, and, as she tells People, she plans on meeting them all.

We are SO glad that Facebook helped these long-lost sisters find each other. Internet, you did good this week.
