This long-lost Selena interview hasn’t been seen in 20 years…until now
Happy Friday, one and all! Today, it truly seems like we’ve been blessed by the Queen of Tejano music herself, Selena Quintanilla. The Mexican American artist may have passed over twenty years ago, but her spirit lives on in our bustier tops, extravagant outfits, and most notably, in her music. While we can (gladly) watch all of Selena’s interviews, over and over again, we can’t deny how excited we are to have a new one.
Yes, you can now watch a long-lost interview with Selena herself. And you know, cry a little bit while you’re at it — because this baby hasn’t been seen in 20 years!

This video comes to us thanks to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. This interview, which took place for “Tejano USA,” was found in a camera that was donated to the museum’s Spanish language television program by KWEX-TV San Antonio, whose parent company was Univision. In the interview, which takes place in San Antonio, Texas in April of 1994, we hear Selena talk about her recent Grammy win.
Selena speaks about her nerves, and how what she really wanted was to take pictures with all the stars.
During the interview, Selena says.
"The first thing that came to mind, I promise, is that 'I have to take a camera so I can take pictures with all these stars.' And it didn't hit me until later like what if we win? And we went out there, and they didn't let me take my camera in. That's one of the things, I didn't get to take pictures until afterwards. We were sitting there, and I had this huge knot in my stomach. I was so nervous. And then they announced the winner."
Selena explains how happy and shocked she was that she won and how the Dinos haven’t had time to celebrate because they’ve been working. In the rest of the interview, she talks about acting in three episodes of the telenovela Dos Mujeres, Un Camino, and then spills on how she just filmed the video for “Amor Prohibido” in the desert of Joshua Tree.
