These London Fashion Week models basically wore bed comforters on the runway, and we’re not sure how to feel about it

This season, fashion designers around the world have made political statements with their collections, calling out everything from environmental injustice to xenophobia at the highest levels. But at London Fashion Week on Sunday, models basically wore blankets to walk the runway for British brand Mulberry, and we’re still scratching our heads over the statement-making ~lewk.~

Striding down the catwalk in what looked like wallpaper-print quilted duvet ponchos, models channeled the cozy English countryside, looking fully ready to sit fireside sipping a hot cup of tea. While we admit the blanket ponchos seem cozy AF — and Snuggie-esque, if we’re being honest — we’re just not sure we could picture Kate Middleton or Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth strutting down the High Street in one of these numbers.

The high-end Snuggie — oops, we mean poncho! — also comes in black, for days when your inner spirit of coziness has taken on a more goth quality.

The ponchos appear to be inspired by horse blankets, which protect the large animals from inclement weather by wrapping around their bodies and buckling beneath their bellies.

Inspiration truly comes in all forms.

The Mulberry collection was otherwise crisp — heavy on old English patterns, such as tweeds, and hearty handbags, and incorporating ruffles in unexpected and beautiful ways.

Just looking at these blanket ponchos make us want to curl up in bed with a good book.

“We wanted to make it extremely English — countryside, lace, wallpaper, carpets, culture, etc.,” said Mulberry stylist Lotta Volkova, who also happens to style for cult streetwear brand of the moment Vetements, in an interview with The Telegraph. “But for us, what makes it interesting is to do it in a different version, something that could be worn today, and could fit the context of now.”

We know comfort is everything in fashion these days, but we’re not quite ready to wear our bedsheets out on date night. Maybe next year!
