Lizzo clapped back to the person who claimed she is only famous because “there is an obesity epidemic in America”
Lizzo isn’t about to let anyone stop her from feeling good as hell. After someone on Twitter said that Lizzo is only popular because of the “obesity epidemic” currently plaguing America, the “Truth Hurts” singer had to deliver some actual truth to the troll and clapped back in the best way.
On December 20th, a Twitter user who goes by “Dr Boyce Watkins” tweeted out a hot take on why Lizzo’s popularity has skyrocketed in recent months.
"#Lizzo popular is because there is an obesity epidemic in America," Watkins tweeted. "Rather than encouraging people to do better, we are simply lying to them and telling them that they are just fine the way they are. Unfortunately, Many of these people are dying from diabetes and heart disease."
Um…okay…
This tweet gained enough traction that it showed up on Lizzo’s radar, and the singer felt the need to address it. Her main point was that her fame actually has nothing to do with her image—as should be the case for everyone who is recognized for their talent.
"I’m popular because I write good songs and I’m talented and perform high energy hour and a half shows filled with love," she fired back on December 23rd. "The only person who needs to do better is you. Keep my name out ya mouth & look in the mirror before you come for me. Here’s the attention you ordered."
She didn’t just drop the mic. She threw the whole mic stand off the stage.
And she had her army of Lizzbians behind her. “@lizzo is popular because she is free,” one Twitter user explained. “No matter what anyone thinks or says; she continues to live her life. She is confident and bold where as others hide and falsify themselves to be something else. Flawless beauty inside and out.”
“She’s not your patient, and it’s highly inappropriate for you to be opining on her medical condition on a public forum,” another shot back. “Physician, heal thyself.”

And another person pointed out the odd double standard here: if Watkins is going to call out Lizzo for her weight, then they need to address the other issues that run rampant in the music industry.

Unfortunately, there will always be naysayers and haters in the world. But thankfully, we can all learn how to better handle them by taking Lizzo’s confidence and ability to draft an expert clap back as an example.
