Lizzo Bought Her Mom a Car For Christmas, and It’s Just So Pure
Her Instagram video will make your heart grow three sizes.
Lizzo is home for the holidays and she just surprised her mom with a pretty grand Christmas gift. On Sunday, the rapper-singer shared a video of herself gifting her mom with a new car—and it’s the sweetest thing you’ll see all week. “Got my mommy a brand new Audi for Xmas,” Lizzo wrote on Instagram, proud to share the experience with her followers.
In the clip, Lizzo films while her mom is escorted onto the driveway with her eyes closed. “Merry Christmas, Mommy, open your eyes,” the “Good as Hell” singer says off screen. Her mom, Shari Johnson-Jefferson (who looks like Lizzo’s twin), cries some tears of joy, gives her daughter a big hug, and says, “You see these things on television and you never expect it to happen to yourself.”
Lizzo shared more about what this moment meant to her in the post caption. “I remember crying in my car when my daddy passed, no job no money nowhere to live, wishing I could one day provide for my family,” she wrote. “I couldnt do it for my dad so ima make sure I spoil Mama. Happy holidays y’all.”
Lizzo’s dad died in 2009, when the singer was just 21 years old. She’s shared in multiple interviews that she felt lost at this time, but she’s looked back at these moments to show how far she’s come. In a tweet from December 2019, Lizzo reflected on the progress she made 10 years after losing her dad. “2019 is the year my album & song went #1. 2019 is the year I told my mama I can buy her a house,” she wrote.
Continuing the thread, 2020 is the year Lizzo bought her mom an Audi—and we’re so glad she shared the sweet moment with us all.
