Disney+ released the first, tiny glimpse into the Lizzie McGuire sequel, and we’re so hungry for more

Update, January 1st, 2020, 2:35 p.m.: It’s a happy new year, indeed, because Disney+ dropped the first (teeny tiny) glimpse into the Lizzie McGuire sequel, and it’s what dreams are made of. The streaming service released a trailer for its new 2020 content, including The Lion King, a moved-up WandaVision, and The Mandalorian Season 2. We had to wait until the very end of the clip, however, until we peeked our early-’00s queen Lizzie McGuire.

The moment is short, but it’s so worth it. Hilary Duff as Lizzie shows up outside a car, sticks her head in the window, and says, “Hey, it’s me.”

As if we didn’t know, Lizzie! Watch the entire clip below and get excited for more.

Update, October 25th, 9:30 a.m. EDT: Disney+ has made some official casting announcements for the Lizzie McGuire sequel, and this story has been updated to include that news.

Update, September 5th, 11:35 a.m. EDT: Hilary Duff spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the Lizzie McGuire sequel; this post has been updated to reflect that new information.

Hey now, hey no-ow,Lizzie McGuire is back on Disney. And yes, this is what dreams are made of. Last week, Hilary Duff and Walt Disney Company announced that a Lizzie McGuire spinoff will be headed to the new streaming site Disney+. The series will reportedly pick up about a decade and a half after the original Lizzie McGuire and The Lizzie McGuire Movie left off. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming reboot and where you can watch it:

As reported by TVLine, Hilary Duff will reprise her role as Lizzie, now a 30-year-old apprentice interior designer living in New York City with her chef fiancé. And yes, she’ll still have 13-year-old animated Lizzie living in her brain and spilling the tea every chance she gets.

When we reunite with Lizzie, she’ll be celebrating her 30th birthday with her friends. However, the party gets cut short by “some pretty big news,” as Duff told Good Morning America on August 26th.

Our minds immediately went to Gordo (Adam Lamberg) showing up out of the blue. Or perhaps Miranda (Lalaine) finally returning from Mexico City, where she disappeared to promptly before graduating junior high. Or maybe her brother, Matt (Jake Thomas), got into trouble and Lizzie needs to return home to bail him out of something.

In a September 4th interview with Entertainment Weekly, Duff opened up more about the sequel, specifically, the growing pains that come with turning 30—for both herself and Lizzie McGuire.

“Lizzie’s 30 now and I really like the idea of her waking up on her 30th birthday and being like, This isn’t where I thought I was going to be," she said. “My life has taken a few different forms and my moment wasn’t on my 30th birthday, but it was definitely mid-20s, with a kid, already being like, Oh, this isn’t going to look how I thought it was going to look. I really want to tap into that. She’s everyone’s best friend and what everyone loves about her is how relatable she is, so I really wanna go on that 30-year-old journey with everybody.

Duff also told EW that the cast and crew is in the “thick of getting started over here,” so we shouldn’t have to wait too, too long—fingers crossed.

“I think everyone’s dreams are going to be fulfilled by going on the journey of the show,” Duff told GMA in August. We have absolutely no doubts that this is true.

The new Lizzie McGuire is spearheaded by the original show creator Terri Minsky, who won several awards for the four-season Disney show back in 2003 and 2004, according to Deadline.

Duff, who will continue her work on TV Land’s Younger while filming her new Disney+ show, and Minsky had tossed the idea of a Lizzie McGuire reboot around for several years. However, Duff said the timing never felt right until now.

"The conversations have gone on for a couple of years and the timing just didn’t seem right and now Lizzie is turning 30, Duff told People on August 23rd. "I think it’s the right time to set back in and have her go along with you in your 30s and all the fun times, and all of the big monumental moments, and all of the challenges that you’re faced with."

“I just thought that there was an opportunity there for her to be grown up and for her to be there for women again,” she said.

Duff and Disney have been mum about who else is slated to return, but Disney+ did make one major casting announcement, and we’re so excited.

Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas are all back in their original roles as Lizzie’s mother, Jo; father, Sam; and brother, Matt, according to People. The McGuires are officially reunited! Duff shared the news on Instagram, with the caption, “What’s up fam. We doin this.”

“We are incredibly excited to bring back one of the most popular Disney Channel series of all time along with some beloved and familiar faces, said Ricky Strauss of Disney+. “With Terri at the helm and Hilary, Hallie, Robert, and Jake back after all these years, it’s our honor to welcome the McGuire family into the Disney+ family.

That’s all the official casting news we have so far, but as we inch closer to the launch of Disney+ on November 12th—the company’s competitive streaming service, which will cost $6.99 a month and host new original content as well as Disney and Pixar classics—more information about the upcoming show will likely be revealed.

Let us pray that Lizzie McGuire still rocks mini ponytails, mega hair accessories, and tie-dye crop tops. And please, TV gods, allow her and Kate (Ashlie Brillault) to officially bury their hatchet and become NYC gal pals to Miranda’s chagrin. And GODS, PLEASE reignite the flame between Lizzie and Gordo, and also explain how Lizzie dealt with the fame of being an Italian pop star for a few months, and maybe get Aaron Carter to guest star again and, and, and!

We clearly have high hopes for this series, Disney. Take our money and give us all the nostalgia.
