A new live-action Hunchback of Notre Dame movie is coming, and here’s everything we know
We’re officially living in the golden age of live-action Disney reboots, and no one can convince us otherwise. Emma Watson blew us away as Belle in 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, and we’re already quaking with excitement over the upcoming live-action Aladdin and Mulan films. Now, we can officially add another remake to our list of must-see movies, because Deadline reports that a live-action Hunchback movie is in the works at Disney.

Many will remember the 1996 animated film based on the Victor Hugo classic of the same name. The new version will reportedly draw from both the animated movie and the novel (which is decidedly much darker than the cartoon). The newest iteration will be a musical, and Tony-award winningplaywright David Henry Hwang has been tapped to write the script (he’s also America’s most-produced living opera writer…NBD). Actor Josh Gad is set to produce through the production company Mandeville, which also produced Beauty and the Beast. No actors have yet to be attached.
The project still appears to be in its early stages, so no projected release date has been revealed. Regardless, we can’t wait.
