This video of 5-year-old Selena Gomez talking on the phone proves she was destined to be a #BOSS
She may be one of the world’s biggest stars, but Selena Gomez was once just a regular (albeit incredibly sassy) kid. And her mom, Mandy Teefey, recently posted an adorable throwback video to prove it. The footage, posted on July 11th, is from August 1997 when Gomez was just five years old. In the clip, a young Gomez talks to her mom on the phone about her schoolwork. Teefey added a nostalgic caption, writing that her daughters “are born leaders.”

Gracie is exactly like this. Diabolical. XO. My girls are born leaders. Why do they grow up? Her sweet little eyes and massive eyelashes."

It’s abundantly clear that Gomez had a strong sense of self even at five years old, and we have a feeling she got it from her mama. Not only do the mother-daughter duo produce 13 Reasons Why together, but Teefey also managed Gomez’s career until 2014. And the star has credited her mom with helping her get her start.
